Spyware Doctor by PC Tools has been protecting computer users for 15 years from malware and spyware threats and is undoubtedly the highest regarded and most awarded anti-malware tool available to consumers today.
Downloading the free Spyware Doctor Scanner from the PC Tools website was easy, with a very light download of less than five minutes on a broadband connection. Once downloaded, Spyware Doctor was easily installed on our test machine and we were performing their scan within a couple of minutes of completing the download.
After installing, we were presented with a with a clean, simple interface that even the most novice computer user won’t a have a problem navigating and using. While Spyware Doctor does not boast as many features as some of the competitors, we found that we really were not found wanting for anything more than what was offered.
Spyware Doctor comes with high expectations and in our tests it did not disappoint. The scan was quick and hardly made any impact on our test system’s resources. We especially liked the way in which Spyware Doctor displayed the progress of the scan, giving both a progress bar and a “% Complete” heading.
Spyware Doctor identified nine seperate threats on our test PC which were all verified as real infections. After registering the product (another simple process!) the infections were resolved quickly and painlessly.
In addition to the scanner, Spyware Doctor also comes with the “Intelliguard” feature that provides the user with continual real-time protection from all known threats. The PC Tools threat database is considered to be amongst the most comprehensive on the net, giving users great peace of mind and continual immunization from malware infections in the future.

We found it difficult to find faults with Spyware Doctor. This is a product that surprisingly exceeds the hype and the overall package is almost flawlessly rendered. Perhaps the only criticism that we could make is the rather grating alarm tone that is sounded when a threat is identified…Still, it’s better to know than to not know!
