Spyware Cease is a relatively new kid on the block, but has already earned its stripes as the leading solution even when compared against the big guns of internet security. Spyware Cease is not strictly an anti-spyware product: it also scans, defends and removes adware, trojans, viruses worms, and the new big threat – rootkits.
Like most solutions, Spyware Cease offers a free system scan, but does not remove the threats without purchase of their basic product. The download was super light (just over 6MB) and we were able to start using the product within a couple minutes after initiating the download.
We started the quick scan and although it was slower than some of our other tested products (around 5 minutes), it was light on system resources and was not obtrusive in any way. The scan identified six threats on our test machine, which we previously scanned with a leading anti-virus program. The threats were removed quickly with a full report submitted.
Spyware Cease has that unique mix of being very user friendly for basic users and being highly customisable for the more advanced user. The interface is clean, simple and looks great. When Spyware Cease is in real-time protection mode it minimises to the system tray and occasionly presents a slightly large pop-up when it needs your direction in helping to identify a potential threat (one of our only criticisms).

Before even downloading Spyware Cease, the website holds some real gems that already put it above the competition. Spyware Cease offers a unique “100% Threat Removal” guarantee which proves to be more than a throwaway marketing line – if you discover a threat that the basic program cannot resolve, you can submit the threat directly to the Spyware Cease techs who will offer you a custom fix for no extra charge.
On the other side of the coin, Cheesesoft (Spyware Cease’s parent company) is largely unknown and Spyware Cease lacks some of the industry accolades that its competitors carry with pride. Although this shouldn’t influence your decision too much, it is important to note that this isn’t a well known anti-malware solution.
We found that Spyware Cease offered good value for money with real time protection tools and the ability to completely resolve rootkit threats.
Spyware protection is really something that you can’t mess around with, and it pays to invest in the best. You’ll expect Spyware to be a great value, fully featured product that brings with it real peace of mind.
